Will all the Brave people please stand up!
Congrats to Southwestern Community Education Network Youth Engagement Coordinator, Vanessa Lee and her team Bald Eagles who so bravely, either donated their locks or shaved their head in support of Young Adult Cancer Canada. This organization’s mission “is to support young adults as they move through and beyond cancer. To be the connection to peers, bridge out of isolation, and source of inspiration. Any cancer, any stage, YACC’s got your back.”
This seven person team were joined by latecomers who jumped on the motivational ban wagon to be a part of a growing group of selfless individuals such as Abby Anderson, Stephenville High -Shave for the Brave, organizer and contributor. Ms. Anderson, an active CYN youth member received the greatest offering of support by Vanessa as she agreed to shave her hair on Thursday, May 19th in front of hundreds of students, friends and family. Vanessa contributes her inspiration to another active CYN youth Leslie Caines who two years ago shaved her head during a similar event.
Joining Vanessa on stage were other students and teachers, but with a last minute decision, her husband George, joined the team and shaved his head as well.
For all those who have lost their hair due to illness, treatment of illness, or voluntarily to support a loved one or a friend you’ve yet to meet…my hat’s off to you for being so BRAVE!
