Housing and Homelessness Initiative

Since November 2009, when the Community Education Network sponsored a Networking Event to discuss Housing and Homelessness, a lot of activity has taken place as follow up to the that event.  

First was the formation of a Housing and Homelessness Committee for Southwestern Newfoundland, which includes community and agency stakeholders that provide guidance, information and support to the new initiative. 

Second, the Southwestern committee has become a member of the Newfoundland and Labrador Housing and Homelessness Network (NLHHN) that provides support to communities attempting to address issues around housing and homelessness.  A member of the Southwestern committee now sits on the NLHHN steering committee board.

Currently research is being conducted in Southwestern Newfoundland by way of questionnaires and focus groups with individuals and service providers alike.  This input will assist in determining the next steps in addressing the housing problems in Southwestern Newfoundland.
