CYN Christmas Social
On Monday December 13th, 16 students from St. Michael’s Elementary School in Stephenville Crossing had the opportunity to create a uniquely personal and potentially lifesaving gift for a loved one–just in time for the Holiday Season. The students, members of the school’s Community Youth Network group, created “Care Cards” for a special adult in their lives.
Each hand crafted card contained a message and a $10 voucher from a local taxi company. The voucher will help partygoers get home safety as they celebrate the Holiday Season. Funding for the project was provided by Promotion, Prevention and Early Intervention, Department of Health and Community Services. The Community Youth Network in partnership with the Rural Youth Drug Strategy, saw the funding as an opportunity to have youth raise awareness around substance abuse issues but also to give a heartfelt gift.
The card making was one of several activities—including a pie eating contest– students in the CYN group enjoyed as part of their annual Christmas Social.
