Pancake Breakfast a Success!
On Tuesday, February 21st, Stephenville joined other communities across Newfoundland and Labrador to participate in the CBC Pancake Breakfast for Homelessness. The local Pancake Breakfast is to raise awareness about homelessness and housing instability, and to raise funds for local efforts attempting to provide housing and related supports.
The event has been made possible throughout the province by the efforts of the Newfoundland and Labrador Housing and Homelessness Network (NLHHN) in partnership with the CBC. The Southwestern Newfoundland Housing Stability Initiative (HSI) is a member of the provincial network, and mobilized its local member and partners to make the Pancake Breakfast a success again this year!
A financial contribution has been made to the Bay St. George Women’s Centre for their work in providing women and their children with short-term transitional housing. Also supported was Stephenville Emergency Food Services which received a financial donation and a large variety of non-perishable food items.
The Community Education Network, which has provided in-kind staff and administration support to the HSI, the Stephenville Lion and Lioness Clubs, and the many other partners have united to make this event a success, all share a similar belief that raising awareness and supporting local efforts is paramount to moving forward in addressing housing issues.
