February is Violence Prevention Month in the Province. Again this year the Bay St. George Coalition to End Violence, in collaboration with its many partners, facilitated anti-violence initiatives throughout the region.

In partnership with local school staff and students, the Communities In Schools Site Coordinators held activities in all schools during February including Wellness Days, workshops and school rallies. The Stand-Up Against Bullying Provincial Day was Feb 29ththis year. Education and awareness activities took place that included all students, in all schools in the Southwestern area. All students are encouraged to wear pink and to become involved in creating a safe and caring school environment for everyone.
A Violence Awareness and Action Training Workshop was scheduled for Feb 28th at the Kindale Library in Stephenville. The workshop focuses on increasing understanding of the different forms of violence, the impact of violence and abuse, and how we can work together to build safe and healthy communities.
Promotional activities were also planned which included inviting businesses to display “February is Violence Prevention Month” on their marquees throughout the month and distributing placemats and coasters to local restaurants and bars with the message “Violence Prevention is Everyone’s Responsibility”. Displays at the College of the North Atlantic and hospital will help to promote the message of working together to prevent violence and abuse.
