Community Café Celebrated as Part of Public Service Week
As part of their regular charity work, employees of Service Canada hosted the June Community Café at the Lion’s Club on Thursday, June 14th. Staff at the local Stephenville office took turns coming and helping with tasks including set-up and clean-up, serving food, doing dishes, filling soup bowls, making sandwich and dessert plates, and welcoming guests. Along with being present for the event, a financial donation was generously made by staff and the union that represents them.
The café has a number of regular contributors that give each month. These include Advanced Education and Skills, Stephenville, who provide a variety of sandwiches; and Coleman’s Food Centre and its manager, Mondella Stacey, who provide a variety of items (this month they provided fresh fruit at a value of $75!).
As an initiative of the Housing Stability Initiative sponsored by the Community Education Network, CEN staff, along with members of the Housing Stability Initiative and Lion’s Club, regularly contribute soup, sandwiches and desserts. The June café was also supported by the addition of Power Up participants and their coordinator, Corinne Tulk.
