Senior’s Kitchen Party
World Elder Abuse Awareness Day is June 15th. To recognize the importance of addressing and preventing elder abuse and to celebrate our seniors, the Bay St. George Coalition to End Violence hosted its six annual Senior’s Kitchen Party at the Royal Canadian Legion on Saturday, June 9th, 2012.
Once again, the event was filled with information booths and resources to assist seniors in many aspects of their life. Guest Speaker Mary Hynes, President of the Twilight 50+ Club in Port au Port, provided many examples of how seniors can stay involved and active. Entertainment included the Twilight 50+ Step Dancers, and music by The Kippers. Approximately 100 seniors from all over the Bay St. George Region participated. The event was funded by the Provincial Violence Prevention Initiative.
The day was both informative and entertaining stated Bernice Hancock, Co-Chair of the Bay St. George Coalition to End Violence. The annual event is an opportunity to celebrate the contribution of seniors and to recognize World Elder Abuse Awareness Day. By providing information and opportunities to stay connected we help to ensure the safety and well-being of our seniors.
