FAST Kicks Off At Two Schools!
When families partake in the Families and Schools Together program, they are treated to a night of fun, family-centered activities and a meal. In today’s busy world, an evening without distractions and time for just your family is one of the main reasons for participation. Community Education Network (CEN)is currently sponsoring its 9th program in Bay St. George (3 programs at Lourdes Elementary, and 6th at Stephenville Primary). CEN, and is also providing training and support to the Burgeo Academy Families and Schools Together program, which has just started its 3rd annual program.
The FAST program at both sites has been very successful in both family and volunteer recruitment. Although the program is facilitated by a core team including a parent partner, school and community partners, the success of the program is very much attributed to volunteers, who are critical to the smooth operation of a FAST night.
Funding for the FAST programs come from a variety of sources. The Stephenville Primary program has received funding from the Community Addictions Prevention and Mental Health Promotion Fund (CAPMHP) and the Bay St. George Coalition to End Violence; and the Burgeo Program is funded by the H.E.L.P (Help Easing Life’s Problems) Committee in Burgeo.
