Violence Prevention Month
February is Violence Prevention Month.
Funded by the Provincial Violence Prevention Initiative, Bay St. George Coalition to End Violence is a local coordinating committee, with Community Education Network as the coordinating agency, who promote violence prevention by holding events and activities in the Bay St. George region,. Throughout the month there have been many activities taking place to promote Violence Prevention. On Feb 1, 2013 Bay St. George Coalition to End Violence gathered up at the Town of Stephenville for the annual Proclamation Signing.
After the Proclamation Signing, everyone was invited to meet at the Lion’s Club where the Bay St. George Women’s Centre and Bay St. George Coalition to End Violence partnered with organizations such as NAWN, CMHC, CHANNEL to host a Open House Pot Luck Lunch and Learn. Various organizations were given the opportunity to speak about the things that are happening. They each had display booths as well where people who were welcomed to take information.
The Hospital and the Senior’s Home also had Stand Up displays during the month.
February 27th, 2013 is Stand Up Day. Everyone is encouraged to wear pink in any way to participate, and “Stand Up” to bullying. Many organizations and businesses had the chance to purchase t-shirts so they could take part in Stand Up day, some of whom have said they would slate one day every month that they would wear their shirts to promote anti-bullying.
