On September 10, 2013 many businesses, organizations, and local committees will be involved in community activities around this topic. World Suicide Prevention Day is an ideal time to inspire people to work towards the goal of developing creative new methods for ending stigma.
Prevent Suicide: Know the Warning Signs
- Mood changes or extreme changes in attitudes & ideas
- Feelings of hopelessness, worthlessness, purposelessness & guilt
- Withdrawal from family, friends & interests
- Loss of interest in usual activities or daily routines
- Change in eating, sleeping, personal appearance, increase in drug & alcohol use or risk taking behaviour
- Giving away personal possessions; telling final wishes &/or making plans for death
- Looking for ways to die
- Writing or talking about death
