Piccadilly Central High CYN host Haunted House
What do you get when you give youth some fake blood and the message to drive safely behind the wheel? You get a creepy, scary and thought provoking Halloween haunted house! Piccadilly High CYN stirred the cauldron and whipped up a spell that sent the message to “Keep it Real Behind the Wheel”. A variety of scenes encapsulated how bad choices while driving, such as not wearing your seatbelt, texting or intoxication, can be devastating to yourself and others.
As Brittany guides the tour through the dark howling stage, students and staff come across the bloody and gory hospital scene where Doctor David hopelessly looks down at the dead and the dying who hold signs saying “He said he was ok to drive…he wasn’t”. Body parts litter the floor alongside Rachel’s corpse, while the doctor tries to save the life of his patient, broken and bleeding on the operating table.
The next stop is the cemetery, where grieving widow and mother, Miranda, mourns and wails for the loss of her daughter, dead and gone forever because she was too cool to wear a seat belt while out with friends. Chelsea, now just a lifeless empty vessel, is laid to rest under the watchful eyes of both an angel and the grim reaper. “My baby’s gone, “the widow cries, “My baby’s gone forever”! Next to the wailing widow, a lone soul rocks in a catatonic state as a skeleton creeps out from under the static hissing whiteness of a television screen to taunt the lost soul in her stupor.
Our next scene shows another reality of making bad choices behind the wheel. Disbelieving and in a frenzied state, Bradley rattles and shakes the iron bars in the prison scene! He was intoxicated behind the wheel which caused the death of his best friend. Without thinking and with little understanding of the responsibility of being a driver, this young man turned his cool new car into a 3,000 pound lethal weapon that has destroyed lives! With his friend now dead, Bradley must suffer the consequences of his actions along with the guilt he will carry for the rest of his life.
Brittany then leads the patrons through a long dark corridor where bodies lay in wait, and unseen threats rise in the pulsing flicker of a slow-blinking strobe light, toward the last scene. The horrible crash, the broken glass, Sky’s and Meghan’s mangled bodies, screams for help from the dying Carly, and the blood, oh the blood! This last scene shows the horrible truth, the reality of what can happen when you make bad choices behind the wheel.
Piccadilly High CYN illustrated the issue beautifully and demonstrated their understanding of the risks involved with not making good choices when you’re driving. As well, in the spirit of giving and sharing, the entrance fee to the haunted house was set to be one non-perishable food item or a $1 financial donation for the food bank. Brooke volunteered to oversee the table which took in a big box of food items and $66!
About 20 CYN youth participated in the Haunted House, and other PCH youth, staff, and parents helped out with the ideas, resources, decorating and clean-up. It was a wonderful event by some very talented young people!
