CYN Youth Celebrates Another Successful Year!
CYN Southwestern is a vast region and when there is an opportunity to bring youth together it is always wonderful. As in past years, an event was planned for CYN Southwestern youth to celebrate another successful year. This year’s event was an all age’s concert in Corner Brook, featuring RocketrocketShip. 36 CYN members traveled from areas such as Grey River, McKay’s, St. George’s, Stephenville Crossing, Piccadilly, Cape St. George and Stephenville. It was an enjoyable afternoon as CYN member Robyn Anthony stated “It was amazing and fun, and because it not just for CYN members we had a chance to mingle with other people and I made a few new friends!” Attending this event not only gave CYN youth opportunity to come together; it gave CYN Southwestern an opportunity to support six Newfoundland & Labrador youth who are perusing their dreams. When asked why an all ages show, band member Dave Shears commented “All age’s shows are really tough to do to be honest. Venues don’t typically want to do them, and unfortunately more often than not that risk gets put on the shoulders of a band to bring people out. My fondest teenage memories are going to shows and meeting new friends and just having so much fun. We continue to do all ages shows because I really think it’s a shame that youth don’t get that opportunity. It’s so hard to be a kid these days, and we just love doing whatever we can to help. It’s a safe environment to meet new friends who share the same interests. All ages is all ages. That means anyone and everyone are welcome. When I see two people hanging out at the end of the night that were strangers at the beginning of the day, it makes all the risk and stress of the show worth it!”
