Community Café: Thankful to be Here!
When thinking of the Community Café, the old adage “feed them and they will come” comes to mind. However, that is far from the reason why the Southwestern NL Housing Stability Initiative’s Community Café can boast success today. After three years and nearly 7000 meals served, patrons say they come for the music, friendship and the feel good experience.
During this month’s café patrons participated in recognizing World Homeless Day (Oct. 10) by donating non-perishable food items to our local food bank. With this being the season to give thanks many took the time to be appreciative for what they have by giving to those less fortunate.
Thanks to the College of the North Atlantic patrons enjoyed a tasty meal prepared by the Cooking program class. As always, volunteers play a vital role in ensuring continued success and a hassle-free café, special thanks to the first year Community Studies students who came out to assist with October’s café.
During this Thanksgiving weekend when you are sitting around your dining room table, tantalized by the aromas wafting from the kitchen, take a moment to be thankful for all that you have, and make a pledge to play an active role in your community; never take today for granted, you never know where tomorrow will find you.
Come join us again on the second Thursday of the month at the Lion’s Club and the fourth Thursday at Zion Pentecostal Church for another great café, to make new friends and new memories.
