Position Available-Housing Support Worker
The Community Education Network is a not-for-profit community-based organization committed to providing quality services and programs which meet individual needs and fosters personal enrichment, lifelong learning and healthy sustainable communities. CEN is presently seeking applicants for the position of Housing Support Worker on a temporary basis from September 21st to December 4th, 2015.
The role of the Housing Support Worker is to provide coordinated assistance to individuals with multiple and complex needs to help them find and maintain suitable housing. Working with housing providers, landlords and community partners, the Housing Support Worker will use a team approach in the delivery of an array of support services for individuals experiencing housing instability and/or homelessness. Duties include assisting clients in finding suitable housing and providing eviction prevention services; maintaining client files and completing reports as required; liaison with landlords and other services providers; referrals to appropriate services and follow-up; coordinating donations and distribution of household items and furniture; assisting with the planning and coordination of meetings of the Housing Stability Initiative; provision of information and resources for clients and general public.
Applicants must have a diploma or degree in the social sciences supplemented by a least three years work experience in the field. Strong communication skills and a commitment to team work and cooperation is essential. General knowledge of the Residential Tenancies Act, Health Act, Social Housing Act and the Building Codes is needed. Training and experience working with individuals with complex needs is required. Must provide a criminal records check, have a valid driver’s license and own transportation and be willing to work flexible hours.
