February declared Violence Prevention Month
Violence prevention is everyone’s responsibility. Together we can build safe and healthy communities. This is the message the Bay St. George Coalition to End Violence wants to make clear. Mayor Tom O’Brien officially declared February Violence Prevention Month in Stephenville with the signing of the Proclamation at Town Hall on Thursday, Feb. 28, 2016.
Dozens of people were on hand lending support during the signing, including women from the Bay St. George Women’s Center, members of the Bay St. George Coalition to End Violence and students from the Stephenville Middle School. While donning a pink shirt that read “Be a Buddy, not a Bully” one student spoke of the school’s motto, ‘Respect for All’ and how he is proud to be a part of that team.
The Bay St. George Coalition to End Violence has several initiatives planned for the upcoming month, one of which will be Stand Up day on Feb. 24, 2016. Community businesses, organizations, and schools have been challenged to Stand Up against bullying by painting the town pink.
If your organization or business is interested in ordering pink Stand-Up T-Shirts, you may contact Stephenville Embroidery at 643-3204 by February 17th, 2016.
