Power Up! It Works!

Feb 18, 2016 highlighted a celebration of achievement and accomplishment for seven individuals who added to the growing success story of Power Up!
A career development program since 2008, sponsored by the Community Education Network with funding from the Department of Advanced Education & Skills, Power Up! offers training and resources to adults 25 years of age or older who are in receipt of Income Support but are looking to enter or re-enter the workforce.
Completing all phases of the program, including four weeks of pre-employment training, a 930 hour work placement, continued skill training and a community service project, were Amanda King, Brett McCrae, Cindy Woods, Gary O’Quinn, Kevin Williston, Rachel Young and Robert Collins.
During the celebration Mr. O’Quinn spoke to the audience of family members, employers, community supporters, sponsors and funders, of his experience with Power Up! and how he will argue with anyone who says this program don’t work. “It does work! I’m proof. I came into this program wanting to prove my ability, for someone to give me a chance and with this program, they did. Today, I have, not one but two jobs, and I am here to tell you this program works!”
