Leadership Recognized
Recently, Kim Kendell, Youth Outreach Worker with Mental Health & Addictions, attended the Canadian Mental Health Association-NL Annual General Meeting where she was awarded the Mental Health Leadership Award. This provincial award is presented to someone exemplifying leadership in their community. Kim was honored with this award as a mental health service provider who has shown dedication to furthering mental health within the province, through clinical practice, research or community service.
Nominated by Angel Osmond, Western Regional Coordinator with CMHA, Kim was humbled when she was made aware of her being chosen by the CMHA-NL Awards Committee.
Kim was presented with the beautiful cut-glass award by CHMA-NL Awards Committee Chair, Natasha Martin. During her acceptance speech Kim reconginzed the partnerships and teamwork that has come to be a part of her success as Youth Outreach Worker in a small community such as Stephenville and the Bay St. George area. She spoke of the positive relationship between Western Health-Mental Health & Addictions and the Community Education Network, where she holds her office.
“I am truly humbled to be receiving this award today and would like to thank Angel Osmond (CMHA’s Western Regional Coordinator) for the nomination and the CMHA NL Awards Committee for choosing me as this year’s recipient.
The partnership between Mental Health & Addictions (Western Health) and the Community Education Network has allowed this position as Youth Outreach Worker the opportunity to meet youth and young adults in providing mental health and addiction support services for the entire Bay St. George area. Because of this partnership between government and a not for profit community agency, the tremendous amount of mental health support in a rural area with minimal resources is being recognized today.
Although this award may have my name on it, I accept it on behalf of many. Local committees, businesses, organizations, government departments, schools, co-workers, supervisors, managers, directors, and most importantly, the youth, young adults and families in our area. Without this partnership of many, I would never be able to provide this leadership in mental health.
Thank you once again for recognizing this dedication.”
Congratulations Kim on this most deserved award. It is our honour here at CEN to bear witness to your dedication and leadership and to be a part of this each and every day!
