Community Cafe: The Spirit of Giving!
They say there is nothing like a selfless gesture to pick up your spirits! If that’s the case, then the Community Cafe is filled to the gills with spirit as we served 239 meals free of charge during our December cafe.
On Thursday, Dec. 8, the Stephenville Lions Den was busier than Santa’s workshop and our volunteers were as eager as his elves.
Dressed in red and white, the room glowed with colored lights offering a warmth to all who entered. The atmosphere buzzed with animated conversation, holiday songs performed by dedicated and talented, Lloyd Swyers, with many toes tapping, especially when the mummers made their appearance.
No matter the age, when the biggest kid of all, makes his appearance in his bright red suit, everyone’s face brightens. Thanks to Heather Mousseau and the Canadian Mental Health Association for the goodie bags. Bellies were filled with a delightful helping of turkey, veggies and all the trimmings, topped off with a sweet cookie or piece of cake for dessert. Kim Kendell, with Mental Health & Addictions offered a tasty way to celebrate the season with a Christmas Glow mocktail.
With so much on the go, no wonder everyone left with a smile on their face. Thanks so very much to the Town of Stephenville and Keyin College for their generous financial donation. To the Indian Head Coop and Coleman’s its hard to have a delicious hot turkey meal without the great bird itself…so many thanks for your donations.
To all volunteers, donators, supporters, and patrons many heartfelt thanks for your dedication and commitment. 2016 has been a special year Community Cafe wise, with 1634 meals served, bringing our 5 year total to 7324 meals served at the Lions venue. To the Stephenville Lions Club, our gratitude is immeasurable, to partner with such a giving organization makes this all possible.
From the Southwestern Housing Stability Initiative, happy holidays to one and all, and the safest and happiest of new years. We look forward to having you join us for lunch again in 2017!
