What were your New Year’s Resolutions?
December 31st, 11:59 pm the countdown is on.
Whether by yourself, with friends or in a large surrounding, the world comes to a stand-still as together the final seconds to the calendar year are counted down. As the hand strikes midnight, a collective sigh of relief is made then triumph is heard…THIS YEAR IS OVER!!!!!!!!!
The celebration begins! Congratulatory exchanges are made! WE MADE IT! A year gone, with it are mistakes, yes, but also opportunities lost; love found or sadness of one departed…it means so many things.
January 1st, 12:01 am…what will this year bring?
Now the resolutions begin. Promises for a healthier lifestyle; to lose those extra pounds; to travel.
With the new year, we are each given a chance to change those self-identified undesirables. But, why change at all? Why can’t we just consider it an improvement? Let’s resolve to be more positive with our outlook. To embrace all that life hands us, the good with the bad! Instead of seeing the glass half empty, turn it around and see it from the half full side.
As children we are asked, what do you want to be when you grow up? We answer the traditional: teacher, doctor, police officer, fire fighter…why can’t we just want to be smarter?
With this new year, my challenge to you, is to make promises that you will keep! Did you know that according to studies by Scranton University, 75% of resolutions make it past week one, with not half making it to the six month mark. Why? Why is it that each new year, some of us make the same new year’s resolutions, sometimes adding…this is the year I do it!
Let 2017 be the year that you do it! Together let’s make resolutions that will change the world, not just our little world.
Promise yourself to learn something new and share it with a friend! Find joy in the little things! Give a compliment to a stranger! Lend a hand to someone who needs an extra one! Don’t jump to conclusions!
The Community Education Network believes in being a positive change! We thrive on learning and educating! With so many programs and services, we can lend you a hand to fulfilling those new year’s resolutions, not just for this year, but for a lifetime.
Together we will be the change the world needs! Happy 2017 friends!
