On to the Next Chapter: Power Up! 2018 Finishes with a Celebration
Jennietta Cormier credits working with the BSG Status of Womens Council/Women’s Center for her new found confidence and happiness. A participant of the employment program, Power Up! sponsored by CEN, Jenn was joined by her two fellow participants during a Closing Celebration today to honour their achievements and success.
“Working with the Women’s Centre has been an amazing experience. The staff were so wonderful and welcoming to me. I wouldn’t know where to begin to explain everything I’ve done or learned from these wonderful people… helped me overcome my shyness and has made me want to remain involved with the community and to volunteer where I can.”
Program Coordinator, Corinne Tulk, presented each of the three a Certificate of Completion signifying their success in completing the pre-employment training, a 930 work placement and 13 biweekly training sessions.
Taking a few moments to thank all involved in delivering a successful program, Corinne thanked the Department of Advanced Education, Skills and Labour for their funding backing, as well as, the employers who offer participants such as Andrew March, Alexandra Hinks and Jenn the opportunity to learn and grow as employees. Addressing the participants she added,
“To you the participants, you have shown courage and faced your own challenges and pushed pass them to be here today…a success. From today forward, remember to be proud of your achievements no matter the size or effort, the result is the same…YOU DID IT!”
During her recant of what Power Up! has done for her, Jenn thanked the BSGSWC, CEN and AESL staff for the opportunity to participate in the Power Up! program noting the change and positive difference it has made in her life.
“Myself, family and friends have noticed how much working with the Women’s Center and working in general has made me happier. I would do this program over and over again knowing how much it has helped me see my future more clearly. It has inspired me to set new goals for my son and myself I have abetter idea now what I have to do to provide a better life for us…now onto the next chapter of my life.”
