Power Up! Gives back to their Community!

Community Youth Network and Community Education Network has partnered up yet once again with Human Resources, Labour and Employment to offer residents of the Bay St. George area, 25 years of age and older, the opportunity to enter or re-enter the work force with another Power Up! program.

Eight participants began their orientation training on June 20^th and were excited to begin this new phase of their lives.  Of course, it wouldn’t be a CEN or CYN venture without giving back to our community and the Power Up! team were geared and ready.

Teaming up with Stephenville’s Relay for Life Steering Committee and other selfless community members, the Power Up! participants helped give a good start to this year’s event. Steering Committee member Liz Porter said that this is the first year they were ahead of schedule, “this group made quite a difference” in how long it took to set up tents and the Survivors’ Banquet. She and others hope to see them back again next year.

On June 28^th it was off to lend a green thumb to the Bay St. George Women’s Center with some gardening, spring cleaning and event preparation.  One participant felt very satisfied with helping out. She said that it was “nice to support this organization that offers women and children a place to go when they need help”.

The participants are looking forward to learning new skills and enhancing those they already possess.
