Power Up! A Smile Goes a Long Way!
Excited to continue building their skills, Power Up! 2015 participants engaged in an interactive, educational training session centered on offering “exceptional” customer service to their customers and clients. Recently all began working on the employment phase of the three phase employment program.
Having completed a four week pre-employment training, each of the eight participants approached local employers with their new found confidence and enhanced resumes in hopes of securing a 930 hour work placement. Placement employers agree to allow the participants to attend biweekly workshops that continue to build their employable skills.
Jane Smith Parsons with Hospitality Newfoundland and Labrador (HNL), facilitated
WorldHost, an internationally certified, interactive, seven-hour workshop focusing on effective communication skill building and quality customer service. The group interacted in activities centered around the importance of a name, how to use effective nonverbal communication and emphatic skills when dealing with irate customers; the importance of leaving personal issues at home; and how best to be an advocate for business and community. Participants enjoyed the group discussions and shared experiences leaving them with an excitement to return to their respective places of employment and put into practice today’s lesson.
