Families and Schools Together (FAST)

fast-banner(not currently offered)

A past initiative of CEN, Families and Schools Together (FAST) offered an 8 week program offering parent involvement and family support while helping children succeed academically and socially. The FAST program involves schools, families, community partners and a large number of volunteers.

FAST consists of family based fun activities which include a meal, communication activities, parent and kid’s time, and much more. Developed in 1988, each component of the program has been developed based on sound research practices.

From 2004 to 2012, the Community Education Network partnered with local primary and elementary schools to facilitate this program in Southwestern Newfoundland. During that period three cycles of the program were offered at Lourdes Elementary with four at Stephenville Primary.

Families who complete the 8 week program “graduate” into FASTWORKS which provides the families with an opportunity to continue the support network created in the 8 week FAST program. During FASTWORKS, the families come together on a monthly basis and participate in fun community and school based activities, supported by community partners and Community Education Network Staff.
