Housing Stability Initiative go Back to the Basics
Henry Ford once said, “Coming together is a beginning, staying together is progress, and working together is success.” This could very well be the unwritten objective of the many community partners who gathered together on May 27, 2014. Held at the Lion’s Club, the Southwestern Housing Stability Initiative members came together for their annual Strategic Planning meeting.
“In order to move forward you have to remember where you’ve been.” This was the theme that Mary Barter, planning facilitator, introduced to the group. So, for this group it was “back to the basics.” Interactive and thought provoking activities and discussion made the event successful. Group work centered on Terms of Reference, Reflection, Initiatives, and what we have learned.
In their individual groups, members were challenged to dissect and analyze various objectives and projects; to ask the tough questions and to reaffirm the main goal. Committee members walked away with a new directive and perspective, rejuvenated energy and reinforcement of all that has been accomplished to date. As one member so nicely put it, “HSI is not a committee, it’s a concept…”
